Rules were created on how to play it.
After World War II, kendama toys were sold in candy stores. This was where other popular toys were also sold. In 1975, Fujiwara Issei, an author of children’s books, founded the Japan Kandama Association. Among other things, the Association wanted to foster the game with new players and children. They also standardized kendama rules for competitive play. They created the rules to allow more people to play the game in the same manner.
