How the French played it.
The French call this game “bilboquet.” “Bil” refers to the ball and “boquet” means “small tree.” Literally, it means a ball and a small tree, which the handle resembles. There are slight differences from how the bilboquet was played centuries ago. The stick had a small cup and a large cup at opposite ends, and the ball was tossed and then caught alternating between the small and the large cups.
