The Redtail Catfish (Pirarara)
This species is popularly referred to as a fighting catfish. You can easily recognize this catfish due to its brownish back, blood orange dorsal, yellow sides and caudal fins. The redtail catfish can be found in large rivers, lakes and streams. But during high water, this large fish moves into the flooded forest to search for food. This catfish is an excellent example of a truly omnivorous fish, with an eclectic diet that includes fruits, fishes, crustaceans and aquatic vertebrates.
